Scholarships
During their studies, students may apply for various scholarship calls. Scholarships are offered both within the University of Primorska and by external institutions. Below, we present some types of scholarships.
Scholarship Fund of the University of Primorska
In cooperation with the University Development Centre and Incubator of Primorska, the Student Organization of the University of Primorska, and the business sector, the University of Primorska established the UP-Scholarship Fund.
Every year in June, the UP-Scholarship Fund publishes a public call for applications for students wishing to join the UP-Scholarship Fund for the following academic year. The call is published on the university’s website. The public call also includes a list of employers who are partners of the UP-Scholarship Fund, as well as information on the fields of work (job positions) for which there is a staffing need among the partners.
Students who meet the conditions specified in the Rules of the UP-Scholarship Fund may join the scholarship programme by applying together with the required documentation. Based on the submitted applications, the information provided to the UP-Scholarship Fund by the student’s home faculty, and the conditions and evaluation criteria for inclusion in the fund, the university prepares a proposed list of selected students, which is then submitted to the Fund’s Management Board for approval. Admission to the fund is decided by the Management Board on the basis of academic performance (grade point average), extracurricular activities, language skills, international experience, and the results of the partner organization’s competition for the best research or project assignment. These categories are evaluated in the manner specified in the Rules of the UP-Scholarship Fund.
The mutual rights and obligations between the University of Primorska, the fund applicant, and the scholarship recipient are regulated in a tripartite scholarship agreement.
Public Scholarship, Development, Disability and Maintenance Fund of the Republic of Slovenia
Merit-Based (Corporate) Scholarships
The Public Scholarship, Development, Disability and Maintenance Fund of the Republic of Slovenia publishes an annual joint list of available corporate scholarships offered by employers on its website. Students can search for available scholarships in the database using various criteria on the Fund’s website, but they must contact employers themselves and arrange all details regarding the application process and scholarship conditions.
Although corporate scholarships are generally less popular among young people, they are among the highest-value scholarships available and often remain unawarded due to a lack of student interest.

Zois Scholarships
The public call for the awarding of Zois Scholarships is published on the Fund’s website no later than June for the following academic year.
The public call specifies the eligibility conditions for obtaining a Zois Scholarship and the criteria used to select scholarship recipients among eligible candidates, the documentation applicants must submit, the estimated amount of funds available for Zois Scholarships, the application procedure, and the application deadline. An application form for claiming the right to a Zois Scholarship is also included as part of the public call.
Students submit the application for a Zois Scholarship themselves, as this is a right exercised directly by the candidates or their legal representatives.
A student may obtain a Zois Scholarship if they meet the general conditions set out in the Scholarship Act and:
- achieve an average grade of at least 8.50 in higher education, or
- rank among the top 5% of students in their generation based on average grade, or
- achieve outstanding accomplishments in a specific field of social life, regardless of year of study.
Among candidates who meet the eligibility conditions, those demonstrating stronger achievements are selected for scholarship support.
More information about corporate and Zois scholarships can be found on the Fund’s website.
Employment Service of the Republic of Slovenia
State scholarships are awarded to applicants who meet the general conditions laid down in the Scholarship Act and whose average monthly income per family member in the previous calendar year before submitting the application does not exceed 60% of the minimum wage during the same period for applicants studying in the place of their permanent residence, and from 60% to 65% of the minimum wage for applicants studying outside their place of permanent residence.
The types of income and earnings included in total family income, as well as the calculation and determination of income per family member, are regulated by the Scholarship Act.
The amount of the state scholarship (basic scholarship and supplements) is determined by the Scholarship Act and other implementing regulations. The state scholarship together with all supplements may not exceed the minimum wage.
A student may receive a state scholarship for one year for each year of study at the same level of education.
The competent Centre for Social Work decides on the awarding of state scholarships at the first level.
Applicants for state scholarships submit their applications to the competent Centres for Social Work in accordance with the public call published every June by the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities on its website and through public media.
More information is available on the website of the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities.
