UNESCO representatives discussed potential collaborations aimed at supporting UP students in STEM

On Wednesday, 7 August 2024, a delegation from the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe with special focus on South-East Europe and the Mediterranean basin (based in Venice, Italy), met with the management of UP and UP FAMNIT to discuss potential collaborations aimed at supporting students in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields.

The discussion with UNESCO representatives, Megumi Watanabe (Programme Specialist) and Laura Bortolutti (Associate Project Officer), focused on UNESCO’s support for the UP Scholarship Fund, aimed to reward and encourage the best students at UP.

During the visit, the UNESCO delegation also met with our international students, scholarship recipients, and researchers who are actively working in STEM disciplines. This interaction highlighted the diverse and vibrant academic community at UP and allowed the visitors to gain insight into the challenges and opportunities faced by students and researchers in these fields. The visit also included a tour of the UP library and the former Servite Monastery, the only monument of national importance in the historic city center of Koper, which is now under the auspices of UP.

The meeting was a starting point for future collaboration that will enhance educational and career opportunities for students.
