General Information on the Functioning of the Student Council

The Student Council is a body representing the students of the faculty. It operates in accordance with the Statute of the University of Primorska, the Rules on the Functioning and Organization of UP FAMNIT, and the general act of the university regulating the operation of student councils of UP member institutions. The Student Council may further regulate its work through its own rules, which must be consistent with the aforementioned legal acts. Members of the faculty’s Student Council are elected by the students of the faculty.

The Student Council consists of at least 9 members. The term of office of the members is one year. Elections to the Student Council are held at the beginning of each academic year. The method of electing members and their functioning is determined by a special act adopted by the Student Council of the University of Primorska.

The Student Council has a President and a Vice-President, who are elected by its members at the constitutive session.

Within its competences, the Student Council:

• discusses all matters relating to the rights and obligations of students,
• provides opinions on educational work in procedures for the appointment of teaching staff and associates,
• forms student opinions for the Student Council of the University of Primorska and elect’s student representatives to faculty bodies and working groups,
• gives opinions on candidates for the position of Dean, and
• participates in decision-making within the faculty bodies.

If an opinion issued by the Student Council within its competences is not considered, the Council may request that the competent faculty body reconsiders the matter at its next meeting, decides, and informs the Student Council of its position.

Student participation in other faculty bodies is ensured through membership or by invitation to meetings (student representatives in faculty bodies and committees).
