Study programmes
Agronomy interdisciplinarily integrates various scientific fields and approaches in modern crop production, and its fundamental goal is to ensure healthy and sufficient food for a growing global population. Due to climate change, limited natural resources, and environmental pollution, agronomy is constantly evolving and is no longer focused solely on production and understanding plant functioning. The main guiding principle of modern agronomy is agroecology, which is based on a thorough understanding of ecosystem processes, nutrient cycling, biodiversity, and the establishment of balance between agronomic practices and the natural environment. The specific characteristics and advantages of Slovenia’s production area highlight the need for young agronomists who will strive to develop innovative and sustainable agronomic practices.
UP FAMNIT offers a study programme only at the first level of study – an undergraduate higher education professional study programme Agronomy. The study programme is conducted in the Slovene language.
A distinctive feature of the study programme is its placement in the Mediterranean environment, which enables diverse production of high-quality and safe Mediterranean food. In 2013, the Mediterranean diet was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
