Financial Mathematics Studies

Study programmes

Mathematics, alongside art, is the only universal language of human communication that has been present throughout history in all developed civilisations. It has always served as the fundamental tool and language of the natural sciences, and in recent years it has increasingly assumed this role in other areas of human creativity as well. Abstract mathematical theories are finding unexpected applications not only in physics, technology, and engineering, but also in the social sciences, biomedical sciences, and especially in economics.

Over the past decades, economics has undergone a significant transformation from a classical social science into what is today often regarded as applied mathematics. Solving the most complex scientific, as well as practical and everyday, problems in the economy now largely depends on proficiency in computer science and mathematical analytical methods.

UP FAMNIT offers study programmes in financial mathematics at both the first and second cycles of study – the undergraduate academic study programme Mathematics in Economics and Finance and the master’s study programme Mathematics with Financial Engineering. Both study programmes are conducted in Slovene.

The offered study programmes in the field of financial mathematics provide a comprehensive set of knowledge based on mathematics and computer science. In addition to their strong applied value, these programmes offer an interdisciplinary combination of skills and knowledge required by anyone wishing to actively follow developments in modern economic science or to work successfully in academia, public administration, or the business sector.
