About the Faculty

The Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies (UP FAMNIT) is a member of the University of Primorska. It was established in 2006.

The Faculty offers courses at all three levels of higher education and conducts research in the fields of mathematics, computer science and information technology, and in the natural sciences. The Faculty works closely with the University of Primorska, Andrej Marušič Institute (UP IAM), where most of the academic staff of UP FAMNIT are currently conducting research activities

At the undergraduate and master’s levels, study programs are offered as full-time studies, while at the doctoral level, they are offered only as part-time studies. Study programs are conducted in Koper and at the Livade 1.0 facility in Izola.

The faculty employs 195 higher education teachers, associates, and researchers (staff), who work across five departments, as well as 44 professional, technical, and administrative staff members, with whom the faculty maintains cooperation through UP IAM (joint professional services of the faculty and the institute). In addition to its employees, 40 contracted associates also participate in the delivery of the educational process.

Core Activities

The basic activities of the Faculty include education and research, while the Faculty is also the organiser and co-organiser of successful international conferences and other scientific meetings.

The Faculty is actively involved in the international field of higher education and research, and has established a wide network of research links with prominent foreign universities. We like to emphasise that the UP FAMNIT research group is one of the two leading research groups in the field of algebraic graph theory in the world. (The other three groups are located in China, Australia and South Korea.) These efforts by the Faculty have helped place the University of Primorska as an internationally recognised research institution

The faculty also organizes workshops and lectures for the general public, and during the summer months it hosts summer schools and camps, primarily intended for secondary school students and final-year primary school students.

Faculty Leadership

The faculty is led by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Ademir Hujdurović, who began his second term on November 23, 2023. In addition to the Dean, the faculty leadership consists of the Vice-Deans, Heads of Departments, and the Faculty General Secretary.
