Psychology / Biopsychology Studies

Study programmes

The biopsychology study programmes (undergraduate and master’s) combine two fundamental fields of science – natural sciences and social sciences – with the aim of overcoming the traditional division of addressing personal and social phenomena solely from either a social science or a natural science perspective. Biopsychology is an interdisciplinary field that connects various scientific and applied disciplines in order to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the human mind.

The master’s study programme Psychology educates and trains professional psychologists who, through the acquired knowledge, skills, and competences, will be able to independently work in fields requiring an understanding of the complex determinants of individual and group behaviour and the application of this knowledge to solving contemporary problems of society, groups, and individuals. More specifically, the programme focuses on areas such as (mental) health, psychological insights into healthy work environments, education, individual development, and related fields.

The doctoral programme Suicidology and Mental Health is a specialised study programme designed to prepare students for independent, internationally competitive scientific research work in the fields of suicidology and mental health.

UP FAMNIT offers study programmes at all three levels. At the undergraduate level, it offers the academic study programme Biopsychology; at the master’s level, the programmes Biopsychology and Psychology; and at the doctoral level, the programme Suicidology and Mental Health. The doctoral programme is conducted in parallel in both Slovene and English, enabling students broader international integration and participation in the global research environment.
