Study programmes

The development of computer science and informatics provides the foundation for the advancement of intellectually demanding technologies in Slovenia. Computer technology is environmentally clean and does not require extensive material infrastructure or natural resources. Its successful development depends on a stable and high-quality educational structure that enables excellent training of experts at all levels of computing knowledge, strong connections with industry, and a research core capable of following emerging technologies and participating in top-level research in this field. In recent years, Slovenia has witnessed the growth of several IT companies engaged in software development, marketing their own products or developing custom software solutions for foreign IT and manufacturing companies.

For the successful development of computer technology – capable not only of providing knowledge for the use of existing advanced technologies, but also of supporting software development and the creation of new technologies – it is essential to maintain a strong awareness of the comparability of acquired knowledge with that of foreign educational institutions, as well as an appropriate understanding of current scientific and technological trends in the international environment.

UP FAMNIT offers study programmes in computer science at all three levels – the study programme Computer Science at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. The undergraduate and doctoral study programmes are conducted in parallel in Slovene and English.

Between the academic years 2020/21 and 2022/23, UP FAMNIT also offered an international joint doctoral study programme Computer Science together with University of St Andrews School of Computer Science.
