Conservation Biology Studies

Study programmes

The diversity of all living organisms and their habitats, including the diversity of species, genes, and ecosystems, is today severely threatened by human activity. In the coming decades, thousands of species are expected to disappear, many of them before they are thoroughly understood.

The solution to biodiversity decline lies in nature conservation and the promotion of the sustainable use of natural resources, which requires highly qualified experts. In addition to classical biological knowledge, such experts must also be familiar with chemistry, physics, and modern tools such as bioinformatics, conservation genetics, and geographic information systems.

UP FAMNIT offers study programmes in conservation biology at all three levels. At the undergraduate level, it offers the academic study programme Conservation Biology; at the master’s level, the programme Nature Conservation; and at the doctoral level, the study programme Conservation Biology. The doctoral programme is conducted in parallel in Slovene and English, enabling students broader international integration and participation in the global research environment.
