Data Science Studies

Data Science is an interdisciplinary field aimed at extracting meaningful information for businesses, the research sector, and policymaking. It is based on three key areas: computer science, mathematics, and domain knowledge, which represents the field in which data are collected and applied. With the growing volume of data and the increasing demand from companies, researchers, and policymakers to extract key actionable insights, the need for data science professionals continues to rise.

UP FAMNIT offers a data science study programme at the second cycle of study – the master’s study programme Data Science. The programme is conducted in parallel in Slovene and English.

The study programme is based on the guidelines of the European Mathematical Society (EMS). The main objectives of the programme are founded on in-depth theoretical knowledge, access to domain experts from various fields, and practical industry experience, through which students will be able to apply existing techniques and develop new methods for processing big data, thereby “bringing data to life” and “telling stories” with it. The curriculum is based on the latest knowledge and current trends in data science and related disciplines, including ethical issues and regulations (e.g. General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR).
